JEAN SIBELIUS 150 YEARS ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
Baritone Hannu Ilmolahti and pianist Janne Palmiola designed the Jean Sibelius 150 Years Anniversary concert. The famous and most beloved songs and piano works of Sibelius were combined in the concert with some of his rarely heard compositions, such as Freemason songs. The final performance of the Jean Sibelius concert series was held on Sunday, 10 September, 10.9.2015 as a first home concert.
We’d like to thank the amazing artists and everyone who attended the concerts!

3 X SIBELIUS ART EXHIBITION
In the honour the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius we also set up an art exhibition in Culture Salon.
3 x Sibelius exhibition gathers together art and works of three brilliant artists Virpi Ekman, Petri Petrie and Jan Vaaka. The works are tailor-made for the anniversary and apart from the original works. Graphics, drafts and other material are available at shop.moreon.fi.

Visual artist Virpi Ekman has exhibited her art, not only in art galleries, but also in places that are not that usual for art. Tallink Silja’s terminal was filled with her art during Turku European Capital of Culture 2011 as well as has Tavastia club in Helsinki and canteen of Pori Brigade. She finds it refreshing to take art close to people, even at surprising places.

Petri Petrie is a visual artist as much as he is a musician. He was born to a Finnish artistic family in the end of 1960s. His works have been displayed in over 100 exhibitions in Finland, Sweden, Russia, Germany, England, Malaysia and USA. One of his career’s highlights was an exhibition in Pietari in 1996. The event was organised by Russia’s Association of Artists and after 100 years, Petrie was the first Finnish artist attending.

Jan Vaaka is known as portrait painter, musician and culture producer. Vaaka’s painting style is somewhere between realism and naïve art. He has only had a few public exhibitions during his career due to his prime activity of customized works. His latest exhibition was in 2014 in Culture house Grand in Porvoo.
HISTORY
Culture Salon was located at the heart of the Helsinki city at Erottajankatu 15–17, in a building built in 1886 and designed by architectures H. E. Saurén and Helge Rancken.
For about half year it was a center of culture, restaurant and bar as well as a modern dance music venue. The building has a long history in Finnish film industry. Between the years 1915 and 1987 the building was used as movie theaters called Lyyra, Punainen Mylly, Royal and the latest Adams, which was named after its owner Adam Korhonen, who worked in Hollywood as a projectionist.
This autumn the Culture Salon has a new location – still in the heart of Helsinki – and the beautiful concerts will be held in beautiful and various places.
