Billie Holiday Show by Sanni Orasmaa & Eero Koivistoinen Quartet
The year 2015 is the 100th anniversary of Billie Holiday. The highly respected and valued jazz-singer started off from the clubs of Harlem and grew into a world-famous artist. Her eventful career is brought to life by the talented Finnish musicians, Sanni Orasmaa and Eero Koivistoinen with their band.
Sanni Orasmaa
is one of the most interesting jazz artists at the moment. She has international experience having performed abroad long periods of time, for example Nordic countries, Italy, Poland, Germany, Austria, China and United States. She has also been successful in competitions, for example when in Austria, Sanni won the Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead, an international competition for young artists who are dual musicians and composers.
Sanni lived in New York during years 2000-2007 and entertained crowds in several clubs and festivals, as an example can be mentioned Knitting Factory, Sweet Basil, Blue Note, Cornelia Street Cafe, Zinc Bar and Rainbow Room. Moreover, she collaborated with variety of talents, i.e. George Gruntz Orchestra, Ted Curson, Matthew Garrison, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Ron McClure, Ron Affif, Ben Monder, Charlie Hunter, Bobby Previte and Kirk Nurock.
Eero Koivistoinen
is the Grand Old Man of jazz being one of the all-time greats in Finnish jazz and saxophone. He has influenced the Finnish jazz scene since the mid-60s. Ever since, he has been one of the most distinguished and trusted jazz musicians in Finland. He is known for his versatility and creativeness, his tastes ranging from pithy jazz solos to large-scale orchestral works. Koivistoinen’s remarkable talents have been rewarded several times with variety of nominations and awards.
